The Busy Tooth Fairy
The Busy Tooth Fairy

Did you know there are thousands of Fairies all over the world? They live quietly in the woods and in the gardens of all the nice children.
They are usually dressed in gossamer, that special material made in the country hedgerows. They have beautiful wings that you could see right through, they were made of the finest silk that the silkworms had carefully woven.
They lived in the hollow trees in the forest, making them warm and cosy and putting little fairy furniture in all the little rooms. The furry squirrels were the furniture makers. They had sharp teeth and little hands to hold the wood. Then they were able to carve out each perfect chair, table and bed for the fairies.
Most of the things the fairies used were already in the woods. Like half a shell from a walnut that they made into their washbasins. They were very clever. Small stools were made from baby mushrooms, so they could sit at the table which was a very large flat mushroom.
They were so lucky to have honey to eat, brought to them by the wild bees, and the fruits of the forest that were in plentiful supply. They stocked up all the extra food they could not eat, so that when winter came, they had enough supplies, so they would not have to go out in the cold.
They were very busy fairies, they had a job to do, many doing all sorts of different work, but these particular fairies were the tooth fairies. Now it was a hard job, but the fairies loved it. They had to look after small children.
Now how on earth could they do this? They were just small fairies, that could fly around and lived mostly in the woods.
What you did not know till now, is that they were able to use Magic. Special powers that the friendly Witch of the woods, gave them.
The fairies had this magic power to find any little boy or girl that had a loose tooth, and they would make sure that the loose tooth would eventually come out, without it hurting at all.
But the best part of all was that if the girl or boy put the tooth under their pillow when they went to bed that night, the tooth fairy would visit them in their bedroom and take the tooth away then leave a little piece of silver under the pillow. Of course the fairy would have been watching the children to see if they had been good. Not every one had a piece of silver if they had been naughty, so all the children made sure they were good, and would look in the morning to see if the tooth fairy had been.
They would usually find just a small silver coin, and although this would not have been a lot to spend, it was so nice to think that a fairy had been in your bedroom and very close to you. If you looked carefully, they might have spilt a little fairy dust near your pillow. But the fairies were very careful, and some might not leave any dust at all.
If you have a loose tooth do not ever worry, a tooth fairy is watching you and it will come out really easy when it is ready. Then you can look forward to the tooth fairies visit.
