No Date for Valentines Day? A Guide To Surviving Valentines Day On Your Own
By Christopher Phillips

Let's face it, not many people are alone on Valentines day by choice. Internationally, people in general, would ideally like to be with a partner they loved on Valentines day but that is not always possible. It shouldn't be to difficult for a couple in a permanent relationship but for those who are not currently dating, life might be a little more difficult. But don't despair as this article is going to explore one or two possibilities of getting that all important Valentines date.

Although you would assume that any couple would automatically want to share Valentines Day together then you would be wrong. Take as an example, that of a couple that have not been together for very long. They are possibly not sure of the feelings of their new partner as to whether or not they want to spend that special day with them. It could be just a case of basic insecurity. It will also depend on the intensity of the relationship, if the "love bells" are ringing strong in each of their heads then spending Valentines day together can probably be a guaranteed certainty.

But for the couples that are in a more slowly developing relationship, almost casual in fact, then the desire might not be so strong, they are not yet sure of just where they want this relationship to go. Quite sensible really, you may even adopt the approach that what really is so important about Valentines Day anyway. Is it just another over hyped, over commercialized annual event? Well maybe so, but it has been with us for a great many years and it would be a shame if it disappeared. It has inspired many famous lovers!

Of course the reluctance could be the fear of rejection on both parts. Well there are two points here, forget about leap years, there is nothing today to stop a woman from making an approach as well as the man. And in both cases why not just go for it? Ask the question, the worst that can happen is that the other half says no, so then you know exactly where you stand, time to move on maybe!

You may think it safe to assume that couples that have been in a steady relationship for some time would automatically be spending Valentines Day together. And generally this would be the case unless work or maybe other family commitments prevented this from being possible. After all Valentines Day can fall on any day of the working week and is not normally a public holiday in any country I know of.

Assuming this is not going to be a problem then the next little setback could just be one of taking things for granted. For instance, each partner could be taking for granted that the other is intending that they spend Valentines Day together. But in fact maybe one or both parties have no such intention. This has happened many times leading to a break-up in the relationship leaving one or both on their own for Valentines Day. This could have all been avoided if the two had just made that little bit of effort to discuss the arrangements together.

Normally, single people are the sector that can be most likely to spend Valentines Day on their own, not usually by choice but due to a whole range of circumstances. Maybe they just prefer to be on their own at all times of the year and are just not ready to indulge in any real contact with the opposite sex.

On the other hand there could be real desire to make contact with a dream partner that has been in their sights for a long time but contact has thus far been difficult. A direct approach has not been made for the possible fear of that already mentioned rejection. Then Valentines Day is just the opportunity to use as an excuse to ask for that special date. Again, what is the worst that can happen?, the target says no!! Oh well at least one knows there is no future in that direction. Time to look again or what about making use of one of the many online dating agencies? These days there is very little stigma attached to this type of dating and many long term relationships have come about from just this sort of introduction.

But what if that person says "yes", then life could be about to change big time and not just for that one special day either!!

Maybe you are not planning anything special for Valentines Day and have no wish to get involved at this time. So there is nothing wrong with just getting together with a casual friend or even few friends. Go for a special meal or the cinema in fact anything that suits your company, after all although Valentines Day is about love and emotion there is no reason why it has to be directed at just one individual. As long as you enjoy your day that is all that matters. If it is your wish then I hope that you will not have to survive Valentines Day on your own.

Valentines Day is just one day that comes around every year. A lot of people are on their own every day of every year and not by choice. If you are one of those people then there is a lot of information available on how you may find friendship and romance and in future years not surviving valentines day on your own.
