CRAFT IDEAS FOR KIDS

Puzzles - Trace heart shape onto heavy paper (i.e. poster board) for each student. Instruct students to write a Valentine's sentiment neatly on heart shape. (Encourage creativity.) When messages have been written, instruct students to cut out heart shapes. Students should then outline puzzle pieces onto reverse side of heart, then proceed to cut these out. Upon completion, each heart's pieces should be stored in a separate bag. Exchange bags. Allow students to piece together puzzles and read messages.

Bracelets - Cut a 1"-wide strip of pink construction paper long enough to fit around a child's arm. Cut three hearts out red construction paper. On each of the hearts, print one word of a Valentine message ("I love you" or "Be my Valentine" or "Happy Valentine's Day"). Let the children put the words in order to form a phrase, then paste them in the correct order onto their bracelet strips. Add other decorations as desired. Tape the completed bracelets on children's arms for take-home Valentine's treats.

Valentines Day Crafts Ideas For Kids
By P. Banas

A small gift, a favor, an out-of-your-way effort-there are many ways to express your heart on Valentine day. Hand-made crafts are an instant hit when it comes to gifts-they not only are beautiful but also appreciated more because of the effort put into creating them.

Introduce Valentine's Day craft ideas in your family and convert your home into an activity center--the kids will love making these interesting crafts and giving them to people who mean a lot to them. Here are some Valentine's Day craft ideas listed below:

* Wrap a Styrofoam wreath with red ribbon. Glue candy all around and make them overlap each other. Attach a small ribbon loop at on one end so you can hang the wreath. The sweetheart candy wreath is ready.

* Cut two similar-sized hearts from a grocery bag and paste the edges together. Fill the heart with cotton and close the hole. Paint the heart red and spray pink paint over it after the red paint dries. Write a message across the heart with a dark-colored marker. Use buttons, ribbons, etc. to add a few more effects to the heart. Make a loop at one end with a ribbon so the recipient can hang it up.

* This Valentine's Day craft idea is very easy. Take some Styrofoam cups, paint them red and add glitter. Then, write a message on the cup. Fill your Valentine vase with lots of lollipops or flowers, depending on who you want to give it to.

* Take a small mirror and attach it on the inside of a card decorated with cut-outs of flowers and leaves. Make a crown or tiara with silver or golden paper and place it at the top of the mirror. On the outside, write a message complimenting the person who will open the card to see her own reflection wearing the tiara.

* Cut out a heart from a thick cardboard sheet and cut it into pieces so they can be easily rearranged like a jigsaw puzzle. Decorate the pieces and attach messages to some of them.

Valentine Day Poems are usually based on the theme of love and beauty. This Valentine's Day, pen your innermost thoughts; weave it into a touching poem which will bring a smile on your Valentine's face.

Affordable Quality Kamado-style Ceramic BBQ Grills & Accessories!

Valentine Arts and Crafts For Kids
By Dee Powerand Cece D. Jensen

Valentine Day is for kids as well as adults. It's the first major fun holiday since Christmas. Below are several ideas for Valentine arts and crafts that children can make, give and receive. Adult supervision is required when using scissors, hot glue gun or the oven, such as the crayon hearts.

Crayon hearts

These are fun to make and only require an adult to place the muffin tins in the oven and remove them when melted.

You will need: Crayon pieces
Heart shaped metal muffin tin
Cellophane bags
Marker
Colored Card Stock
Scissors
Ribbon
If you don't have cellophane bags you can use squares of cellophane. You can also use a zip lock bag.

Heat oven to 245 degrees Fill each heart mold muffin tin with chunks of crayon. Bigger chunks are better than smaller chunks. Keep colors complimentary such as white, pinks, reds or opposites like blues and yellows. Bake until melted 10-15 min. Catch any overflow by using a flat cookie sheet underneath the muffin tin. Be careful not to move muffin tin around too much after the crayons have melted. You want nice bright color chunks not mixed together brown.

While crayons are melting, and it doesn't take very long, let the children color on heart shaped paper.

Let cool, they'll cool faster in the fridge but remember the more you move the muffin tins the more the colors will mix. Remove hearts from mold.

Cut heart out of card stock write message on back, write "to" and "from." Place crayon in cellophane bag and tie bag with ribbon hole punch paper heart. Slip onto ribbon and tie a knot.

Suggested messages:
You make my hear melt
You color my world
Color me happy

These make great Valentine gifts for children because they can actually color using the hearts.

Monkey Around
Children love monkeys.

You will need: plastic monkeys. Try the dollar store or online party stores. If you can't find monkeys you can always buy the game monkeys in a barrel.

Hole Punch
Cellophane or clear gift bag
Ribbon
Marker
Card stock
Scissors

Put one or more monkeys in cellophane bag, tie with ribbon.

Cut a heart out of card stock. (Write message. On back write "to:" and "from:"

Hole punch heart, slip onto ribbon and tie a knot to keep it on.

Suggested Message:
Lets Monkey Around
I'm going Ape over you
Come hang around with me.

Plant One On Me

Children are fascinated by seeds and plants. If possible see if your plant nursery or florist, has a few of the kinds of flowers the children will be planting so they can see what they look like.

You will need: packet of seeds any kind. Big seeds like nasturtiums, sunflowers, or zinnias are easy for children to handle and plant. They also sprout rather easily and quickly.

Colored markers
Terracotta pots, size depends on you
Potting soil enough to fill pots
Scissors
Card stock
Hole punch
Water
Ribbon
Cellophane bags

Have child paint, or marker terracotta pot. Let dry. Put potting soil in pot. Plant seeds. Water. Let drain for 15 minutes or so. Serve refreshments or play a game while the pots are draining.

Place pot in cellophane bag and tie tightly right above the pot so the soil can't come out. Cut out heart from card stock. Write message "to:" and "from:" on back.

Hole punch heart run through hole and tie tightly around the bag.

Suggested messages:
Plant one on me
Watch our friendship grow
Watch our love grow
Our friendship will flower
Love will blossom

Hope you and your child enjoyed these Valentine day arts and crafts for kids.

3 Great Valentine Crafts For Kids
By Susanne Myers

Valentine's Day is just a few short weeks away. Get in the spirit by making some fun Valentine's crafts with your kids. Use them to decorate the house, or make little cards that your child can exchange with friends and family. This is also a great time to talk about the people that are important to your child like grandparents and friends at school. Teach your child the importance of showing these people how much she likes them. Make a special card for each of them together, then mail them or hand-deliver the cards together.

Heart-Shaped Cards

Fold a piece of construction paper in half and trace a large heart on it. Draw the heart so one side touches on the folded side of the construction paper. Cut the heart out, being careful to keep the folded area intact. This makes a foldout heart-shaped card. Let your child decorate the card with markers, stickers, glitter and cutouts from magazines. When she is done, help her write a note for the recipient of the card inside. Stick the card in an envelope and it is ready to be mailed or handed out.

Valentine Collage

Start with a large sheet of paper or construction paper. Grab some old magazines and the advertisements out of this week's paper. Look for anything Valentine's Day related, such as hearts, flowers, and candies. Have your child create a Valentine Collage with these magazine cutouts, then use markers, crayons and stickers to further decorate it. Hang the finished collage up - it makes a great Valentine's Day decoration.

Heart Garland or Banner

If you'd like to decorate even more for Valentine's Day, make a heart banner or garland. Cut heart shapes out of red and pink construction paper or craft foam. Use a hole-punch to make a hole in each side of the heart. Then use pink ribbon to tie all the heart together into a garland.

If you'd like to personalize this banner, take a marker or pen and help your child write the names of the people she loves in each of the hearts. This also makes a cute classroom craft with each child writing their own name on one of the hearts.

How To Make Valentine Heart Crafts
By Christine Doheny

I'm not the greatest at crafting my own Valentine gifts or crafts, but I do have some ideas you might like. Valentine's day is a little holiday that people like to show their favorite person how much they care. It's a great time to get crafty and show what you're capable of making for that special someone. Crafting something will also help you save money if you're on a budget. Here are some great Valentine heart crafts:

Candy Cane Hearts- This is really more for a topper to a gift or another craft. If you have any leftover candy canes from Christmas-time then you can get crafty with them. Keep them in its wrapper and make them into the shape of a heart. You can then tape the two ends together so they'll stay in that shape. It's really cute to put on top of your wrapped gift, it's just a little extra embellishment.

Egg Carton Heart- Now we're really getting crafty and recycling at the same time. Help save the environment with this Valentine heart craft. All you need is a paper egg carton, not the Styrofoam kind, pink, purple or red paint, card stock and a larger frame. This is such an easy craft to make you have no idea. All you need to do is cut the bottom of the egg holders so each edge is the same height and they sit nicely.

You can cut them each apart so they're their own holder. You then paint them whatever color you chose; pink, red or purple. Once it is dry you can glue the cartons on the card stock in the shape of a heart. Once the glue is dry you can then paint in between each holder so it all flows nicely. Again, once everything is dry, probably best if it sits overnight, you can put it inside a large frame and get ready to hang it. This is a great Valentine heart craft that can be brought out every year.

Valentine Butterfly- This is more for the kids to help out with, but it's great for their imaginations. This can really be made any way you want. I think the easiest would be to use foam shapes. You want four heart-shaped foam pieces, two big ones and two small ones. You also want two decently small heart shapes for the antennae, some pipe cleaners and googly eyes. Again, so easy to craft.

First, you take your long oval shape foam piece and glue the heart wings on the back side. The larger hearts are for the lower wings and the smaller hearts are for the upper wings. Press firmly so the glue really sticks. You can then take your pipe cleaners and glue it to the back of the head part and then glue the smallest hearts on the pipe cleaner for the cute antennae. Let dry for a little bit before you glue the googly eyes on. That's it! You now have a cute Valentine butterfly. You can add more foam shapes on the wings if you want or glitter to add a little glam.
